September Wrap Up
Wow… I can’t believe it’s that time again. Another month has flown by and what a month it was. I made $75 this month from affiliate sales. Two people this month purchased the SEO Book and I had another Text Link Ads sign up as well. While this is a long way from my goal of $5,000 a month, it does represent a 50% increase from last month. Besides, October has already more than doubled that total with the $150 coming in from the Goodmind study, as well as our first advertiser (more on that later this week). So, while I’ve still got a long way to go, I still think I stand a good shot at hitting my goal over the next 275 days.
September was also a great month for the number of RSS subscribers. If you remember the Complete Blogging Package contest’s goal was to hit 150 subscribers on September 1st and we just barely made it. A month later, the feedcount has more than doubled! I’m beginning to sound like a broken record but I am really excited and encouraged by these results. In my post What Hosting a Blog Contest Can Do for You, I mentioned that if the number of subscribers doubled again in 25 days I’d be “one happy blogger”. Well it’s only been 18 days and we’re only 70 subscribers away from hitting that goal. I guess I’d better have a good week of blogging huh?
So there you have it, 50% more income, and more than double the number of subscribers for the month of September. Let’s hope October is more of the same.
If you haven’t already, please consider subscribing to Blogging Experiment either through our RSS feed or via email. Also, how was your September? Let me know in the comments below.
I just wanted to say two things. First, congrats on the increase, a 50% increase is no small feet no matter who you are. Second, your welcome, I started subscribing to you site in September. Don’t worry I will pat myself on the back.
Derek, lol glad to have you on board. You’re comments are always entertaining.
As for the 50% increase, it’s no small feat, but I’ll only reach my goal if I manage to keep that rate of increase each month.. If I stall out once I hit a few hundred bucks a month, it won’t be nearly as impressive 😉
Sorry to bring up that math thing again but starting at $75 for month 3 and increasing by 50% each month won’t get you there by the end of the Experiment. At that rate, I figure you’ll be making about $2883.25/month at that point. Not bad but you’ll have to keep the day job.
Now if you can double your income every month from here on out, you should be hauling in nearly $40,000/month by then.
Good luck!
@ Pops, bah! You’re right, I just counted the number of months it would take to pass the $5k a month assuming a 50% increase from $75 (11) but forgot that calculation is essentially starting from month 3 so I’d pass the $5k mark about 2 months too late. Did I mention I’m going to be starting a new site basicmath.com? lol
First of congratulations Ben, that’s great growth! Secondly to Pops, concerning the math thing – did you continue the formula past the target date? If he continued to grow his income at a growth rate of 50% (which is admittedly high) then the month after he hits $2883, he’d be on $4325 and then $6487 the month after. Growth like that is exponential!
@ Caroline, thanks! Certainly 50% growth per month would be fantastic but Pops is right, technically I wouldn’t have met my goal for this experiment. Of course I probably wouldn’t have minded much (especially every month after that) but my math was indeed wrong. But hey, I like the double the income every month idea better. Let’s shoot for that one 😉
Caroline, and by year three he could by Google!
Ben, sounds like you’re on good pace to hit your goal. While The Monetizer is a relatively new project for me, I still make some decent money off other blogs I run, so September was a pretty good month
Keep up the great work here, I enjoy stopping by to see what’s new and your thoughts on the make money online topics.
@ Monetizer – my other sites definitely bring in more money than this one, however, I’m hoping the time spent on this one ends up paying off before long and shoots this one to the top of my list. Stop by as often as possible and again, good luck with your project as well!
Glad to hear you’re moving forward with this experiment.
RSS and email subscriptions – DONE.
Now a question – until I get my own domain name and host, is there a way to make some money with free wordpress blog – currently they don’t allow any ads with free accounts?
Thanks.
