As I was struggling to update WordPress yesterday (I made it a lot harder than it should have been… it’s a talent), I figured why not add another plugin to the mix, just to kick up the difficulty level a bit. To be honest, the update really shouldn’t have been difficult AT ALL but hey, what good is it if I don’t have something to complain about right? Anyway, as I said, I’m now using the Related Posts Plugin from w-a-s-a-b-i.com (quite possibly the most obnoxious domain name I have ever had to type into my browser). The plugin was crazy easy to install and in fact, the theme I’m using already had a spot for the related posts commented out. Even I can’t manage to screw that up.
It also provides two key benefits that will help your blog grow. Not only does this plugin give interested readers yet another way to access your content, it will also help interlink your content for search engine purposes. The more links each of your posts has (including links from your own site) the more likely they will be to show up in the search results.
Bottom line, it’s easy to use, and it’s helpful to your site. What more could you ask for from a plugin?

1It’s definitely a great plugin and it’s easy to use. Plus it’s perfect for cross-linking between posts.

2I stumbled upon this site (not from Stumbleupon, but from random wanderings via John Chow). I’d just recently gotten the bug from Seth at http://suckout.blogspot.com when he started a website called Gadooney (http://www.gadooney.com) which talks about a very similar topic, although his goal is not as ambitious nor necessarily linked to one single site rather than a bunch.
So, what seems to me to be important out of this is the process and http://bloggingexperiment.com/.....nk-ads.php
Text Link Adshe trek, with the secondary goal of the million. Sure, a million would be great, but if you learn, document, and duplicate the lessons here to a multitude of sites (not the dead blogs, but the future ones that you’ll create), then you’re set.
If you check out my site, apologies in advance, as I just set it up a few hours ago. I probably spent too much time mucking about with plugins and the like, but given that I have close to zero programming skills, the more that can be automated, the better. If Comment Relish keeps mucking you about, you could try Brian’s threaded comments at http://meidell.dk/archives/200.....-comments/
Best of luck, and I am now subscriber #52. Hopefully this will be like being the 52nd employee at Google.

3Jason, I’m not quite sure I follow your first two paragraphs but I’m definitely considering threaded comments. I need to see how it looks in this theme and how easy it will be to tweak. I’ve got comment relish working (used the new optimized version mentioned in my post Comment Relish Back in Action (appropriately linked to in the Related Posts for this post).
I’m also probably going to use some version of Popularity Contest or Most Popular Posts. I just haven’t figured out quite how I’d like to present it and format it.
Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the site!

4I manually link related posts, because the plug-in counts posts as related based on keywords, and not significance. Also, I write several different styles. They may have no relation based on keywords, but are of related interest based on style.
I think that’s more important when you’re talking about humor writing. I would rather take a political satire and link it to a political satire, than link based on keywords.
Also the plug-in doesn’t understand the difference between on of my really good posts, and something that wasn’t that good. I like that extra control as to what gets linked and what doesn’t. It’s way more time consuming, but I think it’s worth it - For now at least.

5My apologies for lack of clarity. I was trying to document the path to how I got to you.
1. http://suckout.blogspot.com (a poker blog) led to
2. http://www.gadooney.com (the guy made more money in affiliate marketing that in poker, so he started a how-to site) led to
3. John Chow led to

6I used to do related posts manually, butt that is a pain in the but (← I got my but(t)s backwards, oh well it happens!) The plugin is much less time consuming.
Your link the the related posts plugin does not work.

7Weird… I’ve updated the link, not sure what happened to the one I had in there. I’m fairly certain it was working when I posted this.
