One of the most frequent suggestions I’ve received for this site is to have a contact page to make it easier for people to contact me. To be honest, I’m not quite sure how I had missed such a basic element of a website but for whatever reason, I had placed my contact information on my About page. So, while I was updating to WordPress 2.3.2 last weekend, I decided to finally get around to fixing the problem.
I did some quick searching and decided on the Enhanced WP-Contact Form created by Joost de Valk. Not only does it create a contact form, but it also allows the person contacting me to CC themselves and has a math question (spam protection) built in. Another very nice feature is that it can be placed on any post or page of your site. Once you upload and activate the plugin, you simply have to insert the <!–contact form–> tag and presto change-o you’ve got a comment form embedded in your page.
As an added benefit, the form records the referring page and includes that information in the email. If you have multiple forms, this allows you to know exactly which page the email came from. Finally, I created a contact page and moved the contact information over from the about page. In the short time I’ve had the page up, I’ve already received a couple of emails from it so I’m guessing people were previously having a difficult time figuring out how to get in touch with me. I really enjoy interaction with readers and fellow bloggers and I’m hoping this helps facilitate that a bit more. So don’t be shy, click over to the new page and give the form a test drive.

1You’ll get a ton of business with a contact form… People will want to shake behind the scenes to ask you specific things that they don’t want to address publicly.
I received a ton of consulting and advertising deals this way. If it ever gets too much to handle then you can hire someone.

2I’ve been struggling with whether to have a contact page, but recently decided against it. I may revisit the decision.

3Personally, I like (and use) cformsII from deliciousdays. It’s crazy customizable. You can pick it up here, though I’m sure you’ve already seen it and may even have a good reason for not using it. Feel like changing my mind?

4Read Scott, I’d suggest it. I can’t believe I let myself get away without one for so long. Unless you have your contact info readily available and in a place people can find of course. I think I assumed people would look on the About page for it but that apparently wasn’t the case.
@ Erik, to be honest, that one looked a bit more complicated than I needed. Also, I’ve used some of Joost’s other plugins and knew that I’d be getting a quality plugin.

5I like the form. And the fact that you actually have a contact form makes you seem more approachable to your readers.
I could do with one of those - but I’m feeling so overloaded with plug-ins and I’ve forgotten what half of them were for.

6Have you got decent antispam filtering in place. As soon as I installed a contact form I got a crapflood of junk comments with random words and links to car auctions, they’re a right pain in the arse because they come from your blog’s server so you really don’t want to add that email address to a spam blacklist!

7Thanks for this. It’s something I have been meaning to do for a while too. I installed the plugin ages ago but didn’t get round to activating it. Thanks for the prompt. I look forward to some good feedback from my readers.

8@Read Scott, The contact page is a great way to build networking. To have a way of contacting you simply, from the blog itself, takes away one step in the process your readers go through and may encourage contact.

9Personally, I think a contact form is a great addition to any site. I had mine recently installed and the convenience that it afforded my readers showed in the increase in email that they are sending to me. (To announce their contest)

10I suffer from the same thing. I have failed to put contact forms on several of my websites at one point or another. I wonder how many people tried to contact me before I actually put one up?
