To the comment about music being hard to make money: it’s hard to make money due to the huge amount of competition around. It’s so easy to create music at home and upload it online. Great recordings are being self-made and the quality of production is getting better too… The trick is trying to sort through a pile of hay to find one gem. This is time consuming and many people just give up or not even bother to scour through the masses of indie songs to find something they like. If someone can come up with a way of logging the popular download of songs online, then it would be a great tool to discover new music that worthy of purchase.

For musicians/artist they product is music or mp3′s, so I think this blog can help artist sell more product through affiliation programs. Instead of paying Itunes, you could just do it via web site affiliation.

This is a superb post. I really think these are some of the real secrets to making money online.
BUT that does not look like all bcos there are still unanswered questions like
-how do u choose ur product
-how do u know its going to sell
-how can u properly promote it
I still think there are other big secrets. who’s with me

Wow! This is the most enlightening blog I’ve run across in over 2 years. This really is the SECRET to making money online. I often wondered why many of the Internet Marketing Gurus all wrote eBooks. This is what is making the money.

I do make money online but it is not easy. I’ve been working at it for over a year now.

I have a question. If I write an eBook, how do I sell it as a download and how do I setup the affiliate system? Can this be done on WordPress?

@ Nicola: I’m a musician too and I’ve done a few projects involving CDs, and frankly, my numbers are quite similar to yours, a few sales a month max. I did manage to sell some downloads, mostly on iTunes (I use CDBaby for the digital distribution) but still not enough to make even a small regular income.

I have a blog about “songwriting and music recording for the creative mind” and I am currently considering developping products in relation to this. Perhaps you could do something similar? Or even better, perhaps we could hook up and make a product together? Drop me an email if you’re interested.

What about a two-pronged approach, like creating your own product and then purchasing a website that already has traffic in that niche to promote the product?

Hi Max. I work as an artist as well and I wondered whether this principle would work with an ‘art based’ ebook. Maybe one where people sent their artwork to me and I made a compilation. I realise that there are stacks of these as traditional books but I wonder how many produce quality ebooks?
