When people hear about blog promotion, they immediately think of SEO techniques, link building, and other online promotional efforts. It certainly makes sense to promote your blog using these methods but conducting some offline promotional efforts is also worth considering.
A few years ago, it was not that difficult to get a high SERP ranking because there is only a limited number of people who blog about certain niches. In fact, “niche” probably became popular because only a few people actually write about their expertise. But nowadays, these seemingly niche topics are no longer “niche” in its true definition.
A lot of bloggers are exploring ways to make money online and they are discovering that it can be profitable to write about specialty topics even if they don’t necessarily have the expertise for it. But these bloggers know how to use optimization techniques so they achieve a high ranking and people inevitably visit their blogs. You will discover that your promotional techniques are no longer as effective as before because there are many people using the same techniques. So what can you do to get a competitive edge? Try to go offline.
Trying out offline blog promotion will result to better exposure and you will get a higher number of contacts. In addition, most people have the tendency to associate e-commerce sites that are being promoted online as being more credible than those that promote exclusively online; the same can be true for blogs. So how exactly can you effectively promote your blog offline? Well, below are some tips:

1What do you think about using this for the BANS websites? Would be curious what yall thought about this or if anyone has tried other methods of bringing in traffic without just seo.

3@ 2 cuzzy – Both as Ben was going to stay on and post on occasion.
Offline promotion is something most should do. The 1st item on your list is the one I think that will help out the most. You see successful bloggers networking with each other and going to these conventions can help connect you with other successful bloggers, which in turn helps your blog.

4cuzzy – As Terry stated, part of the deal when we bought the site from Ben was he would provide 20 posts over the course of 10 weeks. I believe he has another 10 or so to go, which is why you will see a few from him over the next couple weeks…
Jason – I haven’t had much luck with offline promoting, but you can get a few visitors to your site that way. When you compare setting up a PPC campaign and you get 300 visitors per day to your site with an hour’s work vs spending all day at a convention and getting 40 visitors to your site, it’s hard for me to justify.
The relationship building is nice, but you can do that without leaving your house as well if you do it right.

6Offline promotion, if done correctly, can be very effective. Leaving a business cards laying around and koozies (the things that keep your beer cool) and both really cheap and are cool. The greatest thing to promote offline is pens. Pens travel far and wide and one of the cheapest and greatest promotion material because you can have a dirt cheap pen.

7I’d be interested to hear real life test results. Giving out pens or koozies might be “cool”, but does it generate any business? I know I’ve never personally called up a company to buy something from them because I found one of their pens in my desk drawer.
Has anyone found a business card laying around and said “Wow great, I was wondering where I could buy XYZ. I’ll go to this website and see what they are selling”?
I know I haven’t, but maybe I’m in the minority here…

8LOL. You’re not alone on that one Max. Whoever advertises their business that way might as well print their company logo on toilet paper rolls and hand those out, too.
@Ben-Good to hear from you dude. Do you still post on your SEO site? If you do, can you give me your url?

9@Jake, I haven’t posted in quite a while. The url is SEOrefugee.com. We have a forum that’s fairly active, you might check that out. I’ve just been kind of burned out on SEO blogging for a while. There’s a lot of echo in that niche. I might go back to it at some point but who knows.

10I think Market Leverage has done a pretty good job with giving away stuff which in turn brings them more exposure offline as well as online when the bloggers post about the stuff they got.

11Meeting people offline where I mention my internet business works for me where I find potential clients or make friends with offline business owners.
But advertising offline with leaflets, posters, classifieds, door to door selling and a display at a computer fair did not work. Far too much effort and expense for little reward and a ton of rejection.
I like the idea of giving away promotional items to visitors to a blog. The recipient will then wear it or display to friends etc.
Sponsoring events such as a school sports day could be a good idea for a local community site.

12Great post about off-line promotion of your blog. Attending conventions is really key as it connects us with like-minded people. And talk about great source for setting up a mastermind group.
I am very new to this blogging experience but see it as a great marketing tool for affiliate programs.
If any of you are in the Vegas area I will be speaking at the 1st Forex Affiliate Conference 25-26th July, look me up.

14Terry Tay. Regards the Forex Affiliate Convention in Vegas, it is the first so not sure how big it will be. However what I can tell you is some of the biggest super affiliates will be there. The reason is because the person organizing it is Marc Lesnick. Marc puts on the biggest Casino Affiliate convention on the planet. He is just getting back from Moscow.
The thing is several of the Casino super affiliates wanted him to do this convention. So I know some huge hitters will be there, I am talking 7 figure guys. I have known Marc for about 9 years and he figures Forex is the next Casino money maker. You may have noticed HUGE reduction in Casino marketing due to US law. Well these heavy hitters are looking for the next big affiliate market.
Click on my name, I put in a link to the Casino Affiliate Convention that just occured, see the video. In Amsterdam 2007 he claims around 200 SUPER AFFILIATES attended, thats guys making min of 6 figure incomes.
Anyway the point is its a great place to find some serious marketers. And if anybody goes hook up with me.
And take Max’s Buying/Selling Websites, I assure you its worth every penny. (That was a free ad for Max, he really did give a ton on the first course)

15Offline promoting seems to be the only strategy these days to market a new blog out successfully. There are way too many blogs…

16I was thinking of printing a few stickers with our logo and url and doing a little guerrilla marketing. Has anyone had any success with this?

17Nope, I’ve never picked up a pen (a cheap one at that) and wanted to give the losers a call.
I do however, get a warm feeling when I see a sponsored event of some sort targeting me with free stuff/information.
My blog is not as serious as you guys, when I do get “out there” to promote, I’m really thinking about wearing a t-shirt with my blog on it to the “regular” places that MY readers are. People are still nosey enough to read your t-shirt.
I think car ads rule. The back window ads are best. The side door ads look a little cheap.

18Thank you for this really good topic. I find it useful.
Offline promotion does help. I’ve been doing it myself from time to time and it gets me decent traffic but somebody rightly said oer here that the expenses are too high for a little reward .
