Definitely no such thing as bad press. Seems to me any time someone winds up in the news, or someTHING winds up in the news it’s usually good for the person on the receiving end of it all.

Even just recently with that cartoon that showed up on the NPR website making fun of teabaggers (in a vulgar and certainly untrue way BTW in my esitimation), he’s gotten a ton of attention due to bad press, and even if NPR, which has already commented that the cartoon does not meet their standard, pulls the cartoon, the thing will undoubtedly live in infamy for quite a long time on YouTube or some other place.

Not that I’m suggesting we should slant a blog for bad press on purpose…

I totally agree with this article and great job. Some people just don’t pay attention to the message that the South Park creators are trying to send, because the viewers who don’t get it, are either just plain dumb or they are too busy rattling off how the show is offensive and “bad.” Mmkay… It certainly is not a show for kids to learn from, but it is a show I have learned a great many philosphies on our current culture and have laughed my ass off in the process. The show does not pick on any one group, it shows all for what they are in a comedic way. If we can’t all get along, can we at least learn to laugh at eachother? That would be better at least. I’d just like to say thank you to Ben for this article and the creators of South Park. Never stop, because it would greatly take away from my entertainment and learning. Yeah… I said learning. I learn stuff from South Park.

Ben, when I said “kind of”, it was meant to soften what I was saying somewhat. But it wasn’t just, say, a typo; it was a slap-your-forehead level mistake and deserved a snarky comment.

South Park is one of the best cartoons of my generation. when the debut episode of Santa and Jesus was played at ‘Spike and Mikes’ festival I was hooked.

all press is good also works for the dixie chicks, i used to think they were hicks and all i had was to agree to one song. its strange to think i shunned them away as country crap before, but once they made a hell of a good point I felt bad for the horrible backlash they got.

One of my favorite examples of how current SP is was the episode in Season 9, Best Friends Forever, which parodies the death of Terri Schiavo. The episode aired March 30th 2005, which IIRC was after the court order came to pull out Schaivo's feeding tube, but about 2 weeks before she actually died. I remember staring at the TV slackjawed, simply amazed that they were able to get the episode on the air so quickly.

@ termy, ok, sorry, it probably should read “rather than traditional animation”. This comment kind of made me surprised you like South Park because it suggested that you’re wound tighter than a snare drum and need to lighten up.

It’s still animation. They animated paper cutouts. This mistake kind of made me want to stop reading because it suggested a lack of knowledge of the subject material. You might want to fix it.
