I agree.
Yahoo Site Explorer has an excellent tool for analyzing backlinks to any site.
Once you identify a popular site, you can then initiate a link request.
Building links is also very possible by commenting on other blogs and participation in social networking sites. It has done wonders for my blog and main site http://www.peternjenga.com

Directory submission is great to start building links. There are many automatic directory submission tools you can use to submit the website to web directories. The only minus is that many directories take too long to approve the submission. There is also article submission. You can write articles about your online business, include links into the articles and submit the articles to article directories.

Ben giving away trade secrets again. You know the funny thing is many people claim it’s harder to make money on the Internet today then it was 10 years ago, of course those people were not around 10 years ago. But there’s a perfect example, back links. Today its very easy to discover the back links for any particular site, but 10 years ago basically impossible unless you had custom software built.
Now maybe you can help me out, does anyone know of software that will tell me how much traffic a back link is sending a site?
