Lessons on Blogging Meme

Throughout the Lessons on Blogging series, I’ve discussed concepts and principles that popular TV shows teach about blogging. The series has been very well received, with several posts becoming popular on several social media sites and attracting several new incoming links. At the end of each post I mention that I haven’t covered all of the possible lessons from each show and without fail, I receive several comments with other suggestions and lessons I missed. Earlier today I noticed a new link to my latest installment M*A*S*H: Lessons on Blogging. As it turns out, Steven Bradley is also a big fan of the show and wrote a post of his own with a whole new set of blogging lessons.

And then the idea hit me, a Lessons on Blogging Meme!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with memes, allow me to explain. The person starting the meme (in this case me) writes a post and then tags other people to follow suit. The tagged bloggers then write a post of their own in the same theme as the original and tag even more people and so on. I’ve never been a big fan of memes just for the sake of memes but I hope this one will end up being useful and well worth reading.

The rules of this one are going to be simple; I’ll tag 5 people asking them to post one lesson bloggers can learn from their favorite TV show. Each person then tags another 5 people and the chain continues. If you don’t get tagged immediately and can’t wait to participate, feel free to jump in at any time. I’ll try to keep track of all those participating in the meme here on this post so if you do participate, please either link back to this post to alert me via trackback, or drop me an email to let me know where to find your post. Hopefully this will be a fun one to participate in and we’ll end up with some great advice at the end as well.

Alright, let’s get this thing kicked off right. Here are the 5 people I’m tagging in no particular order:

Remember, you can jump in at any time but remember to let me know (either by trackback or email) about your post. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Ben – I’ve noticed quite a few people doing these memes. I’ve been tagged before, but they’re not for me.

I can see how some people might enjoy writing them, but I usually plan posts a few days in advance. And to me, writing one of these things in the middle of the working week would be a major inconvenience.

I’m sure there must be benefits to writing them though.

  2. I’d love to participate, but having a blog that’s only 6 weeks old means I need to be learning from you guys!

  3. Ah, grasshopper Ron, not sure if you’re old enough to remember the martial arts/western hybrid Kung Fu but there’s your lesson. We all begin as novices and must learn from the masters before setting out on our own.

  4. Hi Ben,

The post on shaunlow.com was actually written by Steven Bradley.

  5. Thanks Chris, that’s what I get for reading too quickly. I’ve edited the post to reflect and credit the actual author of the post.

  6. Thanks for the mention Ben. Just so you know I didn’t write the post for ShaunLow. ShaunLow just steals all my content a few moments after it’s published.

The post is actually from my own blog

I’m definitely one of the fans of the blogging lessons series. I’ve read them all and they always make for an interesting read. Good lessons in an entertaining package.

  7. Steven, my bad! I’ll fix the link ASAP.

  8. Thanks Ben. No need to apologize.

By the way I forgot to mention I like the meme idea. Most of the recent memes haven’t been the most interesting, but I think this one will be.

  9. Steven, I hope so. So far no takers but I’m going to bully Tamar into it for sure ;) and I’m pretty sure Christine is working on one as well.

  10. Fun! I’ll send you a trackback . . .

  11. Hmm… Must have missed this one. Post up now though! Click my name to see it!

  12. I wrote a lesson from a movie to fit in better with the theme of my blog. Read my lesson from Cloverfield here: http://www.moviesnobs.net/cloverfield-a-lesson-on-blogging/.
