I did the same thing 10 days ago after migrating a site to WP. I caught it this morning but already lost major rankings including it’s own name. After fixing the problem and pinging the site, some pages have reappeared, but they are all way down the list and the home page still isn’t ranking well for much. Our number one ranking we had we aren’t in the first 25 pages for.

Doing everything I can, but wow what a mistake.. I swear I unblocked it, but I think I had to reupload the site a 2nd time or something and didn’t unblock them again.. aye. an SEO’s worst case scenario..

Hello,
As a personal blog owner, I can say that I would prefer that my blog not be indexed. (so yes, there are some people who would rather have their blog as private but as accessible as possible [yes, I know I'm talking about privacy on the public internet, but something is better than nothing])

I’m lucky to find this article.
I found difficulties to activate robot.txt , Technorati had been failed to access my blog but finally I read here and get the root cause.

ROFL – Glad it’s not just me then. I have been scratching my head over why a new WP based web site wasn’t showing and discovered the problem yesterday. Hopefully things wil return to normal soon!

Wow. I just checked a small blog I was running and had the same issue! Looks like it was a problem with v2.6, as my v2.7 blog had the correct setting!

I made a similar mistake recently. I had been converting an old Harry Potter website from static pages to WordPress, and I was putting WP in a separate “wordpress” folder. I had the “no search engines” option on so the directory wouldn’t be indexed while I worked on things. When I finished everything up and moved WP’s index.php and .htaccess out into the root, I forgot to disable the option. A week or two later, I was wondering why Technorati wasn’t listing any incoming links…

So I realized I’d forgot to flip the switch, and ran over to the Options page. I think Google hadn’t been back yet, so I’m lucky I guess.
