First of all, Hi Ben, thanks for this blog, I discovered it a couple of days ago and have been reading through your older posts (like this one) since. Very nice indeed!

What made me comment right now is that goldigg is for sale! It obviously didn’t work out the way Andrew Galasetti had planned it, which is a pity, because I really like the idea.

It all comes down to marketing and creating buzz. I don’t know why his site is down, maybe you could give us a follow-up on it? An interview with Andrew maybe?

I think this would be a great idea for a new post. Whatcha think?

I started the idea but mine has a monetization for paid members. You not only get to post but you get a fully customizable page that you can link from your post. I have a patent pending idea to monetize from news popularity sites and I have implemented only a small portion of it. The patent pending idea involves one or more servers, different types of ad media, human or machine intelligence. By the, for a limited time anybody can post for free at my site. Check it out. My site was launched in September 1.

Interesting- I’m not sure I’d use it enough to get my $100 worth, but if this gets influential, those 5000 people will definitely be able to capitalize on their power. It’s going to be an interesting medium betweeen BoingBoing and digg. I’m interested in seeing how this goes.

@ Steve, there are a LOT of people that use digg and never submit anything. I think it’s all going to depend on how Andrew does on marketing it.

@ Liberty, the design is rough, and actually I’d probably suggest working on that first before marketing it any further. That way if you do get a big dog to talk about it, you’re ready for prime time.

This is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. if only 5K people are allowed to be members why would anyone who is not a member want to go to this site?

Digg has value because it has a huge membership that can drive huge amounts of traffic. limiting your user base to 5K people is stupid and will doom this experiment to failure.

Yea, I checked out his site – I think it IS a great idea, but I get the feeling he is not quite ready for the task at hand. The free wordpress theme, just destroys all credibility in my opinion. But I applaud the guy for going after it, even if it fails he should learn something and will be able to do it better next time -
