New Personal Best: Daily Blog Score 7-31

Well, after not even posting a daily blog score yesterday (came in at an uninspiring 36 but had an issue with my computer last night), I’ve hit a personal best today. Granted, I’ve only been scoring for a few days but I’m checking in at 76 points. I did quite a bit of commenting today and installed three new plugins (that I’ll cover tomorrow morning) but I also had enough time to write three posts. Anyway, as I mentioned before I’m a pretty competitive person so I’ll definitely keep track of my personal high scores. I’m going to aim for 100 points sometime in August, we’ll see how it goes.

So, how’d you do today?

  1. I admire your scrupulousness with points… I’d probably give one long blog post a 50 point value and call it a day ;) .

Have you considered assigning a small value to forum posts on a blogging forum? 1 each maybe? That’s how I discovered your site, so they’re perhaps just as useful as a comment.

Skellie, I probably should count forum posts as a point or half a point each. That would definitely help keep my daily total up. Anyway thanks for the input, I hope you enjoy the site.

  3. For a while there, I pretty much skimmed over the point system you created, but for some reason, this time it seems like something I should try myself. I’m going to have to go back in time on your blog and try to find what points you assign to each of the categories, and then duplicate that myself. Not sure why I think it’s useful all of a sudden, and didn’t before, but what can I say? So, thanks for inspiring me to give this a shot.

  4. Ben,

I love the fact that you use a point system for tracking your daily blogging and promotion. I may have to steal your idea :) .

Currently, all that I’ve been doing is trying to scribble down everything that I do on a piece of notebook paper or my PDA – your idea is much better!

Donna, I’ve tweaked the settings that I originally pulled from dillydesigns.com to value some things lower and a couple of things a bit higher. I tried to value things according to the amount of effort required so for me, commenting on my own blog isn’t as valuable. I’m sure the settings would be different for each person and in fact, I the scoring as a bit of motivation as well. If I find myself a bit short at the end of the day, I’ll sit down and do something of high point value to make sure I make the mark. Of course that’s great for my blog and so far, it’s worked for me.

Paul, it’s not my idea. I guess I should probably link back to the original post in these daily updates huh? The scoring system came to me in a rather roundabout manner (Eve from DillyDesigns.com developed the spreadsheet after reading about it on Problogger.net who had been emailed from Jason at payperclickinternetadvertising.net) but I’ve really enjoyed using it and think it’s perfect for the purpose of this blog.

  6. Nice little system to create a tally on how well you are doing. Not sure its very productive though? Im new to the idea so im open minded…
