I didn't really know much about twitter before reading this article, and I need to have more presence in social media. This article has certainly got me interested about twitter. Thanks.

Ben, I wasn't trying to negate any of the points you made ;-) It was just my opinion.

If people have the time for Twitter and they get an advantage from it by all means use it. I may decide to use it while it's popular. I have MySpace and Facebook too.

I did in fact read your article and I thought it was well laid out. As for showing you who might be being paid to promote twitter I obviously can't show you that...yet. But, I would bet a great deal that some people have been paid to push it.

Lets face it marketers know if an A lister talks up a product everyone that follows them wants to see it and it's smart money. Entrecard paid both John Chow and Problogger to use Entrecard for months and it brought in many people. So, it's not a stretch to think there is probably a few out there being paid to promote twitter.

There are better applications than twitter in Plurk and FriendFeed and yet twitter which is flawed to some extent gets all the hype.

Twitter as you laid out can be useful in certain ways but for the majority I think it keeps them from blogging instead of helping their blogging.

I think Darren answers the "Twitter is a waste of time" argument quite well in his post today: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/06/06/twitter-is-a-waste-of-time/

I can personally say that Twitter is being taken advantage of more and more each day. There are a lot of bots that just adds every single member of Twitter. I believe that the traffic is great, but I hope it doesn't become a StumbleUpon...

Talen, so the fact that you don't see the significance of it must automatically mean it's useless?

Did you even bother to read the article?

Besides that, I'd love for you to show me one instance of people being paid to not only promote but USE twitter. I suppose the A-listers are being paid to respond to messages and use the site on a regular basis for several months on end? Get a grip.

Terry, I don't really see twitter falling by the wayside but I suppose it's possible. However, that doesn't negate any of the points I made in the post.

I think Twitter is the current MySpace fad and though MySpace is still used by many, it seems it isn't as popular as before. Will Twitter go by the wayside eventually as something new comes along? Probably. When? Who knows?

Sorry, I don't get twitter. Most people are twitting things like " I just got up and got coffee"...or " I just made a post". I just don't see the significance of it at all.

The fact that A list bloggers are talking about it and supposedly using it isn't because it's a good application but because they are being paid to do so.

Therein lies the biggest problem with blogging. As soon as an A list blogger talks about a new app everyone and their brother is using it. They all hyped blogrush and that was junk...they hype until they aren't paid then they finish hyping. Everyone thought it was so cool that John Chow and Problogger were using the newest thing Entrecard...now that they aren't being paid they won't...Problogger has already dropped the widget.

While I like Entrecard for all the great blogs using it people have to remember that in the great majority of cases that you are being told this new app is great by someone being paid to tell you that.
